Ethiopia, Norway and the UK commit $240 million to strengthen global epidemic preparedness

Ethiopia, Norway and the United Kingdom have announced a combined $240 million in support to help the world prepare for future epidemics and pandemics.

💉 The funding will support CEPI’s 2027–2031 programme. CEPI is an international organisation focused on accelerating the development of vaccines against emerging infectious diseases.

The commitments include:

🔹 Norway — $106 million

🔹 United Kingdom — up to $134 million

🔹 Ethiopia — continued financial support

🧬 The programme aims to help researchers develop vaccines more quickly when new viral threats emerge, limit the spread of outbreaks and reduce their health and economic impact.

CEPI CEO Richard Hatchett said modern science can now develop vaccines against new viral threats much faster than in the past, but continued investment and international cooperation are needed to keep this capability ready.
