Canada to test a new treatment approach for severe post-traumatic stress (PTSD)

Optimi Health is preparing a clinical trial of a new treatment approach for post-traumatic stress disorder, a condition that can cause long-lasting fear, anxiety, sleep problems and distress after a traumatic event.

The study will combine MDMA, a psychoactive substance, with psychotherapy. Participants will receive the treatment twice, several weeks apart, under medical supervision.

Up to 100 people are expected to take part, including veterans, military personnel, police officers, paramedics, firefighters and healthcare workers.

Researchers will assess whether symptoms such as fear, anxiety and distressing memories improve after treatment.

Important: this approach is still being tested in a clinical trial. Optimi Health’s MDMA products are not yet approved in Canada for routine treatment.
